Contrarians Misrepresent Mojib Latif's Reserach
For years, Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe’s office and other climate contrarians have been misrepresenting the work of Mojib Latif, a meteorologist and oceanographer at the Leibniz-Institute for Maritime Sciences in Kiel, Germany, despite Latif’s repeated attempts to correct their misinterpretations. EPA Biofuel Rule Keeps Real Renewables in Energy Mix
WASHINGTON (February 3, 2010) -- President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency finalized the country’s renewable fuel standard today. The following is a statement from Nathanael Greene, NRDC’s director of renewable energy policy: "The final rule confirms that some biofuels reduce global warming and some pollute more than gasoline and diesel. This proves how important it is to put policies in place to make sure public dollars go to support real renewable energy instead of going after options that do not work and could actually do more harm than good.... Michael Mann Cleared on Stolen Emails
An administrative panel at Pennsylvania State University has cleared (pdf) Professor of meteorology Michael Mann of wrongdoing in the controversy over stolen climate scientists emails from Great Britain’s University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. Pentagon Report Cites Climate Change Risks
WASHINGTON (February 1, 2010) -- The Defense Department today identified global climate change as “an accelerant of instability” that could have “significant geopolitical impacts” that "may spark or exacerbate future conflicts." The findings were contained in the Pentagon’s Quadrennial Defense Review. [Link]
Rail Yard Lawsuit Seeks to Protect Vulnerable Kansas Communities
GARDNER, Kansas (February 1, 2010) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ approval of a mega rail yard 30 miles southwest of Kansas City fails to address human health impacts from significantly increased diesel pollution, according to a lawsuit filed today by the Natural Resources Defense Council.
